October 30, 2018-
Six young men from Rancho Cucamonga have earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award. Each Scout is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were recognized in ceremonies on October 30, 2018 and are part of only approximately 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Derek Woolf, Young Men President of the Rancho Cucamonga Stake, who presented the Eagle Badges.
Each candidate had to earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church service project to earn his Eagle. Congratulations to:
Ashton Merrill set the goal to get his Eagle before he turned 14 years old, and he just accomplished that one week before his birthday. He is currently in the 8th grade at Daycreek Intermediate School. Ashton loves sports, especially playing basketball, swimming, rock climbing and skiing! He also plays the piano and loves to read. He is the son of Brian and Lisa Merrill.
Matthew Snyder came into this world ready to be a scout. From the time he was a little, he was already courteous, kind, loyal, helpful, and obedient. Matthew loves a variety of activities. He excels in music and as treasurer of the stem club. He hopes to work as an engineer in the future. He is the son of Bryan and Afton Snyder.
Gordon Grigg earned 9 merit badges at his first Boy Scout Camp and will always remember it as his first and best. He loves the outdoors and has always enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing whenever possible. The camps and outdoor experiences have enriched Gordon’s life and have highlighted his path to Eagle Scout. He is the son of Gordon and Gloria Grigg.
Edward Sekona loves playing football and has been an asset to his high school teams. He has recently graduated from Rancho Cucamonga High School. Edward will be leaving in January for Maceio Brazil to serve a two year mission. He is the son of Edward and Valeti Sekona.
Bryce Hunt is a Junior at Los Osos High School. Last year he was on the wrestling team and enjoys playing basketball. He plays both the piano and the guitar. He is always ready to go camping, hiking or go to the beach or lake Powell where he likes to water or snow ski, wake board, surf and be with his friends and family. He is the son of Duane and Amy Hunt.
