Food Drive Benefits Local Food Pantry

Updated: Mar 9, 2019

Community Connection Grateful for Food Donations

With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, the food bank by CommunityConnection in Rancho Cucamonga was almost empty, causing them to turn away needy individuals and families. You can imagine their relief when volunteers from the Rancho Cucamonga Service Council along with  Rancho Cucamonga Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsored a food drive on the east side of the city to help the organization restock their shelves.

Bags donated by Stater Bros. to collect non-perishable items were dropped off to residences on November 4th and were collected on November 11th.  In all, over 800 bags were taken to the RC Family Resource Center.

“I can think of no more important service than providing food for those in need!”  said Richard Madsen, who headed up the organizing of volunteers and logistics of the project for the first time this year.

"We turned in about 820 bags of food for this food drive. This will go a long way to care for those in need.”  Everyone who helped, from stapling thousands of flyers to paper bags, to distributing bags then collecting donations from our Rancho Cucamonga neighbors, has helped to feed the needy this holiday season.

The first food drive of this type was held in 2012 and generated over 2600 bags of groceries, overwhelming the food bank. Since then, the city has been divided into thirds with three separate food drives being held during the year.

Local residents interested in donating items outside of the food drives are always welcomed to take food items directly to the Family Resource Center any weekday from 12PM to 8PM at 9791 Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga.

Community Connection is a non-profit organization that offers assistance by giving out food and clothing to needy individuals and families in the area.
