President Smith was raised in Malad, Idaho and graduated from Utah State University with a BA in Marketing in 1989. He served an LDS mission in Hong Kong from 1982 – 1983 (the dreaded 18 month mission).
He met his wife Gwen of Castle Dale UT, while attending USU and they were married in the Salt Lake temple in June 1990. They have 5 children. Dillon is a graduate of USU. Derek and his wife Katie Sonderegger are seniors at USU. Tyler is serving a mission in the Botswana / Namibia mission. Cade is a sophomore in high school and Danielle is a 6th grader.
The Smiths have lived in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Texas, Arizona and California.
For the past 22 years, Marc has worked for Simon Property Group, the leading owner and developer of shopping centers in the world. He is the Vice President / General Manager of Ontario Mills, the largest value and outlet shopping center in California.
President Smith has served in numerous capacities in the church including YM president and councilor, high councilor, bishop and councilor and high priest group leader.
