Steven Escher was born in Long Beach, California in February of 1948. His father was Catholic and his mother was Baptist. He went to Pomona High School, graduated from California State Polytechnic College in 1971 and did graduate work at Cal State Fullerton.
While attending Emerson Jr. High in Pomona, Steve met his future wife, Cheryl, as well as some life long friends who shared the gospel with him. He attended Seminary for a year as a non-member and joined the Church at the age of 16.
Steve and Cheryl were married on July 12, 1969. They have 3 children, 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Steve has worked as a Claims Adjuster for Hartford Insurance Company; a Sales Rep for both a mobile homes dealer and a medical supply company; a Production Control Coordinator for General Dynamics and the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation for the Etiwanda School District where he retired from in ______.
On June 28, 1987, when the Rancho Cucamonga Stake was created, Steve was called to be the first Stake President. His counselors were John Cottam and Gary Beck. He served in that position for nine years. Through the years, his testimony was strengthened as he worked with the wonderful bishops and people of the Rancho Cucamonga Stake and as he saw the growth in the city of Rancho Cucamonga. Visiting General Authorities, that stayed in the Escher home for Stake Conferences, also provided testimony building experiences for Steve. Those Church leaders included Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Elder Rudd, Elder Pincock, Elder Morrison, and Elder DeJager (I will fix these names before publishing.)
When asked who helped him in his Stake calling, Steve said all the members of the Stake. In addition to John Cottam and Gary Beck, others who served diligently and assisted in the work of the Stake were Chuck Hadley, Bruce Nichols, Dave Carter, John Hadfield, Elder Callister, John Harrington and all the High Council members throughout the years. He remembers Sister Geri Hampton working as Stake Relief Society President and appreciated all of her help those first years of the Rancho Cucamonga Stake.
In 2008, after living in Rancho Cucamonga for 35 years, Steve and Cheryl moved to Saratoga Springs, Utah. That move has provided variety of callings and new experiences. He has served as Stake Patriarch for the past 11 years in two Stakes. He has also served as a Gospel Doctrine teacher. With his wife, Cheryl, he served a mission to the Western Australia Perth Mission.
Steve works on Family History and his Personal History, runs 5K races all over Utah, serves in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple and enjoys riding ATVs. He has goals to tie his family together through family history and temple work, to keep running, to be of service daily to some one, and to be the best husband, father and grandfather he can be.
