Sister Jasmine Ayala was called to El Salvador, Santa Ana Mission
High School attended: Los Osos High School
Influential Adult in your life and why:
My father because despite the challenges he faced throughout his youth, he stood faithful to his principles and was obedient to what the Lord asked of Him. Now as his daughter, I can see the many blessings the Lord has given my dad and us as a family. The Lord has called him in multiple callings and has been merciful in times of need. I admire his hard working ethics and he never lets the opinion of others get in the way of his personal and spiritual growth.
What is a scripture that you love?
D&C 38:30. The part that has always stood out to me ever since I was in primary is " if ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." This scripture has played lots of roles throughout my life, but now more than ever. i was prepared to serve a mission, and now he needs me home and that's okay! It has brought peace to my soul to know that i need not fear in these times of uncertainty.
What is your best advice to those who are preparing to serve a mission?
The first advice I would give is to have patience with yourself and others. Don't compare your success with others. In the first three months of my mission I remember being so frustrated with myself because I would forget some words in Spanish or the lessons wouldn't come out like I had planned. I became so stressed! Remember why you chose to serve. These are the Lord's minutes and not ours. The key to being a successful missionary is by being obedient. Obedience brings blessings!!
How is the mission different that you thought it would be? There are many aspects to missionary work. It's not all about baptizing but also about planting the seeds so that later, when it's the person's time, they can accept the gospel. I had trouble to accept the agency of others, even when they had gone to church and read the book of mormon. I was confused and troubled because I knew they had felt the spirit and were ready to be baptized, but they chose not to.
How has the Covid19 affected your mission experience?
I had to be in quarantine for a week and a half before returning home last Sunday. It was hard to go and contact or talk to others on the street because of the social distancing and caution everyone was taking.
I have been reassigned to the San Antonio, Texas Mission! Leaving May 18th.
